RECAP: Right off the bat, the eerie drive down a barely lit roadway leads you to the entrance of The Final Resting Place, setting the tone for how the rest of the night is going to unfold. Following a path chaperoned by caution tape leads to the ticket booth, then off toward whatever horrors await. Continuing along the caution tape prompts a greeting from a crazed lunatic, who lays down the rules and gives you a taste of what you're about to experience.
At first glance, this place looks like the perfect setting for a hillbilly horror movie. A deteriorating house, grimy backwoods surroundings, and a maze of junkyard horrors make you wonder who, or what, lives out herek and what exactly you've gotten yourself into. Because every good horror movie starts with a creepy house in the woods, right?
BACON AND LEGS gets the event underway inside the aforementioned shack, where grotesque torsos, discarded body bags, and cobweb-draped corridors set the stage for a twisted backwoods nightmare. Narrow passageways force guests to squeeze through claustrophobic spaces as dangling pool noodles brush against their faces and bodies, creating an unsettling sensation with every step. Blacklights reveal an entirely different kind of nightmare highlighting dismembered body parts and hanging female mannequins emerging from the darkness, while creepy toys and bizarre displays make it feel like one has stumbled into the morbid collection of someone's outlandish hobby having taken a serious turn for the worse. A spinning head adds another bizarre touch to the already unsettling surroundings, while hidden villains lurk throughout the cramped quarters delivering unexpected interactions that mix dark humor with macabre absurdity. Tight spaces add to the effect by keeping you moving, but leaving little room to get comfortable or fully take in one disturbing sight before the next one appears.
Bacon and Legs delivers a strange, grimy backwoods experience that feels less like a traditional haunted house and more like wandering through the private nightmare of a seriously deranged collector, which endures for approximately 12 minutes before squeezing through this twisted maze of horrors gives way to the main event!
THE FINAL RESTING PLACE HAUNTED JUNKYARD unveils a sprawling outdoor course making use of salvaged vehicles, trailers, makeshift structures, and discarded machinery to create a setting that feels like a horror movie's dumping ground. Approximately 18 minutes of storage-unit-style scenes introduce unsettling displays of body parts, mannequins, and creepy bedroom and toy setups. The attraction keeps changing its scenery, making it difficult to predict what might be waiting around the next corner. One moment, you're navigating strange displays and cluttered rooms; the next, you're confronted with a wall of heads occupying a dentist's office, while clowns, and laser effects add a different flavor of chaos to the experience. Washing machines, closet-like spaces, and trailer sequences continue the attraction's anything-goes approach to junkyard horror, and then the automotive elements are introduced and take over the journey. Derby cars and a sheriff's vehicle featuring skeleton drivers reinforce the attraction's scrapyard identity, while aircraft wreckage adds another unexpected layer to the vast environment. Bridges and changes in elevation keep the route varied and uncertain making the shifting layout feel like an exploration through the entire junkyard rather than just one long, repetitive hallway.
Various characters bring their own twisted personality to the mix, with exchanges that range from darkly humorous to downright threatening. Lines like “What's YOUR name?” followed by, “Then I have to kill you!” And, “I've got some fresh meat for YOU!” make the encounters gruesome, yet funny both at the same time. Meanwhile, warnings like “They will kill you!” help maintain the feeling that you're wandering through a place where absolutely nobody has your best interests at heart. And then come the chainsaws!
Here they come! Outraged attackers pounce onto the scene from all angles, leap over the hoods of cars, and keep their relentless pursuit going without letting up! A brief lull in the action just invites another maniac who's hot on your heels! One chase in particular nearly sent us stumbling on the steps as we tried to get away!
The chaos reaches its peak in the final stretch, where a pig-masked killer and a pack of chainsaw-wielding assailants turn the barrel maze into a full-blown scramble for survival. With chainsaws roaring and danger closing in from every direction, there's barely a second to figure out where to run next! It's a frantic, high-energy sendoff that leaves you racing for the exit and gives the Junkyard one last chance to send your adrenaline skyrocketing through the roof!
ANALYSIS: One of the biggest strengths of The Final Resting Place Haunted Junkyard is how it turns its surroundings into part of the horror. Rather than relying exclusively on traditional haunted-house rooms, the attraction uses cars, trucks, buses, aircraft wreckage, appliances, and makeshift structures to build a world that feels true to its junkyard identity. From the skeleton drivers in the derby cars to the disturbing displays tucked into unexpected corners, there's plenty to discover every step along the way. Bacon and Legs brings its own worn-out, claustrophobic atmosphere, while the main Junkyard opens up into a spacious outdoor experience filled with changing scenery, unusual props, and different types of encounters that continues for a combined 30 minutes of terror. Blacklights, lasers, and other effects add visual variety, and the combination of cluttered spaces, salvaged machinery, and backwoods surroundings gives the attractions a distinctive personality, while the rabid chainsaw finale is one of the attraction's biggest highlights. The combination of the pig-masked killer, the barrel maze, and multiple, high-octane pursuers creates a frantic closing sequence that keeps the pressure on until the very end. Rather than letting the experience wind down, the Junkyard finishes with a burst of energy that makes the final stretch feel like a desperate race to escape. It's an effective use of the attraction's chaotic atmosphere and a memorable way to bring the walkthrough to an exciting climax.
There's some room for improvement in the consistency of the scares. While many characters provided entertaining interactions and aggressive encounters, not every performance landed as effectively as it could have. At times, the acting leaned more toward loud and obnoxious than genuinely frightening. The entrapment sequence constructed in Bacon and Legs while still present, wasn't utilized, thus didn't deliver the impact it could have. With stronger timing, coordination, and execution, these moments could become even more effective and add another memorable layer to the overall experience. That said, The Final Resting Place has a lot going for it. Its unique setting, creative use of junkyard materials, variety of scenes, and adrenaline-fueled chainsaw finale give it a personality all its own. The two attractions also offer a substantial combined walkthrough, giving guests plenty of ground to cover and a variety of strange sights along the way. Invisible dog is missed.
The Junkyard is open on Friday and Saturday nights from 8 PM to midnight. Cost of admission is $25 and includes both attractions! The Final Resting Place is a proud member of The Ohio Valley Haunts Passport of Terror Tour.
