RECAP:  This is the story of Mayor Henry Joseph and his underhanded dealings that led to his opening of a local Speakeasy, where illegal gambling and drinking took place on a regular basis!  In time, he began killing off his enemies and formed an alliance with some redneck hillbillies to assist in hiding the bodies.  He also befriended a vampire doctor, but soon turned on him too, and his burned, rotting corpse is still displayed on a shelf inside the Town Hall.

An unexpected surprise initiates the haunted happenings that include intimidating taunts like, “Peek-a-boo, I see you!” emanating from crevices in the walls; a charred body emerging from within a crematorium; a jolting, jailhouse electrocution; a ferociously barking dog; and a rickety, old shack inhabited by cantankerous, chainsaw-wielding hillbillies, Bobo and Cletus, as well as a horned, bull-headed creature that rises from its initial 4-legged perch to stand upright like a man!  Bobo’s stern warning of, “Red Rover, Red Rover, I’m about to make you bend over!” sends the course scampering upstairs into the waiting arms of Buck, a bloody antagonist who’s in possession of stolen moonshine he’s helped himself to courtesy of the aforementioned hillbillies.

A brief entrapment inside a library of tilting bookcases leads to a conflict with a vicious red-eyed wolf (actortronic) before a hidden, claustrophobic escape route is discovered behind a secret passage that’s only revealed when a moving bookcase mysteriously swings open on its own discovering the secret path!

Still to come is a sudden clash with an unruly captive being restrained by chains, and a run-in with a demented doctor who’s anxious to perform lobotomies on entire groups!  As sedation wears off of her unfortunate patient, he makes an unsuccessful attempt to get away only to be immediately subdued by an injection from her oversized syringe!

Dark corridors unveil crawling entities as continuance enters their award-winning slanted maze inciting some shocking surprises!  A bloody kitchen gives way to vertical coffins, then a bottomless pit becomes practically unavoidable when without warning an adjacent wall begins to squeeze the walkway closer and closer to the edge!

Avoidance eventually dumps into an elaborate cemetery highlighted by impressive tombstones that go in motion provoking the undead to follow suit!  A fenced Freak Show prompts multiple eruptions of sparks ushering in an aerial, clown-assisted send-off from The Haunted Town Hall!

ANALYSIS:  The attraction’s charm has always stemmed from various “haunted” aspects and concepts that are incorporated into the experience, like secret passages; a moving bookcase that opens on its own exposing a hidden, claustrophobic escape; tilting bookshelves; unknown Speakeasy escape hatch; etc.  Uniqueness of their design has always been appreciated ranging from their bottomless pit, to a spark cage, smoking crematorium, and of course the trademark slanted maze!  Animated tombstone monuments and actortronic wolf are among other favorite props.  Best actors include Cletus, Bobo, Doctor, and patient.  Spark fiends, climbing clown, and crawler also deserve honorable mention. Horned, bull-headed villain is likewise memorable.  Dialogue is good and strengthened by taunts, whispers, and constant reminders of being watched.  Lighting is good and spooky throughout.

Cost of admission remains $15.  Be sure to schedule a visit to Mayor Joseph's Haunted Town Hall!

ESCAPE ROOM:  THE SPEAKEASY - There's also a 5 minute, challenging Escape Room called "The Speakeasy" that can be enjoyed for an additional $5 when purchased as part of the combo package.  This OVH award-winning, customer participation event invites guests to search for clues that can be used to complete certain tasks and ESCAPE prior to the cops arriving to shut it down!!  Similar experiences offered at other attractions are often short and so far-fetched that they're next to impossible to solve, but this one is logical and makes sense!  Listen to the story and put all the clues together to figure it out!  Last year’s review said, "We ALMOST had it for the second consecutive season!  Wait till next year!"  Well, it's next year... and OVH successfully escaped!  It's fun and doable!  Give it a go!
