RECAP:  Rufus, the Devil himself, reigns terror over this intimidating abode better known as Hell’s Dungeon.  Speaking in a gurgled voice, the Prince of Darkness summons the services of his demons, more affectionately known as The Rejects, and sends visitors onto their exploration of his dark, eerie dungeon.  The journey encompasses visits to cemeteries; discovers a bizarre minister preaching warnings of what lies ahead, and encouraging repentance; and a creepy crematorium where bodies aren't quite dead and where a mortician pulls a live, outstretched hand out of the stomach of a recently departed corpse!  Highlights include an encounter with Decontamination Dave; a place to rid yourself of gross S.T.D.'s; a spinning vortex; a murky swamp featuring the ramblings of voodoo priestess Mambo Marie; an enormous, man-eating jack-o-lantern; attacks from the cut-throat, cannibalistic "Firewood" fiends, who are ready to slice and grind up intruders; and a strange visit with "Dolly," who's anxious to score some deadly headshots with her bloody hammer!

More scenes include an insane asylum with padded walls that witnesses a pair of young girls crawling upside down before throwing each other around a bit; a hospital showcasing a bloody childbirth, and a prenatal unit filled with possessed babies.  Taking a ride on a rickety, old Hellevator plunges the course deeper into the netherworld, where bloody, mutant animals are caged; a body vigorously convulses on the floor; and a couple of abnormal  girls armed with rather large butcher knives offer  up a severed hand to eat, and are fully prepared to carve off your own arm in preparation of the next meal!  Escape leads into J.D. Rotten's "Freak Show" hosted by the bearded lady, and unearths a creature with a thousand eyes; a circus where no one can hear you scream; a run-in with some sort of multi-colored, stringy creature; a mechanical clown that magically comes alive; a swamp; a horn-honking, giant, clown-faced actortronic; and a sparking slider clown along with his cohort "Bonkers" carrying his trusty, oversized sledgehammer!  Fleeing leads to an encounter with a white-eyed, pneumatic monster and a claustrophobic passageway followed by a skirmish with a 10-foot tall, stilted, red-eyed, robot-like monster having a circular saw for a hand that provides a relentless chase-out of Hell's Dungeon.

ANALYSIS:  Authentic construction contributes to set design that continues to improve and expand.  Soundtrack needs to follow suit, especially in the first several scenes where bleed-over occurs.  Lighting is excellent throughout and contributes to a spookier atmosphere.  Oversized meat grinder and actortronics (jack-o-lantern and clown face) are among the more impressive props, along with the huge, white-eyed monster!  Most memorable characters are: Rufus, Mortician pulling out a hand, Asylum girls, convulsing body, the 2 girls that laugh wickedly as they want to cut off your arm, Bearded Lady, Dolly, Voodoo Priestess, Slider, Bonkers and stilted, red-eyed creature!  Would like to see more memorable, visually impressive action in the Voodoo scene, which is a seldom used, underutilized scare throughout the industry, the potential of which would help carry them to the next level.

Now in their fourth season, Hell’s Dungeon is a lengthy, all indoor attraction.  General admission costs $26 and parking is provided free of charge.
