RECAP Thunder rumbles as flashes of lightning illuminate the Louisiana bayou sky where a festively-dressed Mambo Voodoo Priestess hosts a gathering to conjure the spirit of one of her late husbands, whose "arrival" sparks a sudden, room-morphing surprise!  Departure is gained through a previously hidden passage behind a bookcase that mysteriously swings open on its own and leads into a corridor of spiders and webs, then out into a green, murky swamp inhabited by a well-hidden marsh monster and a giant, man-eating Crocodile!  Thunder continues to clash, and soaking rain splashes down from above as the course forges deeper into the eerily-lit quagmire bypassing a desolate old shack and boat dock, and where crossing an old wooden rope bridge summons another unseen attack!  Additional scenes include the wooden cabin of a creepy old woman looking for a sacrifice to burn in her fireplace; a room filled with animal remnants encaged in glass enclosures that produces an unexpected startle; a living doll room that witnesses a rocking chair and cradle moving about of their own accord!  “Twinkle, twinkle little eyes, how they stare while momma dies!”  Still to come is a CGI zombie kill; a haunted kitchen that finds cabinet doors vibrating, and drawers thrashing open and closed on their own; a library with a tilting grandfather clock; a graveyard of animatronic ghouls, a vulture feasting on the remains of dead corpses, and a face-to-face encounter with a hungry, white-eyed, hissing opossum!  A pig-faced fiend lies in wait creeping down a hallway armed with an oversized butcher knife in advance of a torso-less body that he’s skinned alive and mounted to the wall!  Bloody body parts rotate overhead, dangling from hooks suspended from a moving conveyor belt inside an abandoned shanty that exits into an iron-gated cemetery that houses majestic mausoleums and massive tombstones joined together to form a fog-filled maze inhabited by a fanged, yellow-eyed python and a bizarre, staff-carrying, horned sorceress that’s cast a deadly spell via a life-sized voodoo doll seen with multiple, elongated pins protruding from its chest!  Various creatures unleash a series of assaults via drop-down panels within the crypts themselves before escaping the devilry lands in the midst of a Bourbon Street-like area of The New Orleans swamp just outside The Carnage Community Hospital!

Entering into the Emergency Department waiting room of the CCH discovers an infected patient delivering a bathroom surprise, and then a bloody nurse and doctor rush about aimlessly in search of  new subjects for some sort of diabolical, experimental treatments!  One unfortunate victim has had his leg completely amputated, and he pleads for help before he “Bleeds to death!”  Piles of stacked wheelchairs and gurneys stuffed with lifeless bodies comprise the clinic’s décor along the exploration of atrocities that includes a female surgeon extracting the spine from the neck of a headless cadaver; and a Maternity Ward of elevated, upside-down highchairs staffed by a bloody, ill-tempered RN whose cohort brings about unexpected startles from within an inhumane incubator!  From there, it’s onto the cafeteria featuring a menu assortment of human appendages and eyeballs, courtesy of an outraged cook complete with a refrigerator surprise!  A visit to the Psych Ward stumbles upon a pair of hyperactive lunatics relentlessly laughing and jumping all over their beds, and another demented patient helplessly chained to the wall.  Electro-Shock Therapy observes the demise of some poor soul being treated with just a bit too much voltage!  The Morgue sports walls lined with coffins and body vaults, and is home to The “Broussard Crematorium, where smouldering carcasses are incinerated for all eternity as sirens blare and sparks fly bringing the curtain down on The Carnage Haunted House!

ANALYSISCarnage showcases authentic design and construction to create a legitimate setting and atmosphere for their scares.  A "haunted" aspect is cleverly incorporated by means of numerous active events including drawers that vibrate on their own, rattling cabinet doors, a tipping Grandfather Clock, a cradle that rocks of its own volition, a secret passage concealed by a bookcase, etc.  There's also an abundance of anamatronics, pneumatics, and actortronic monsters and numerous "surprises" throughout.  Lighting is second to none and further compliments their outstanding attention to detail, which includes falling rain accompanying thunder and lightning!  Soundtrack is excellent as well - loud and assaulting.  The adventure gets off to a memorable beginning courtesy of the Voodoo Priestess and her room-morphing ceremony, then explores a well thought-out path that eventually winds its way through an elaborate mausoleum/tombstone maze, then transitions into the second part of the haunt comprised within The Carnage Community Hospital, which likewise follows a most logical series of events.  A ramped-up, more eventful finish would elevate the score even higher!

Actors are energetic and do their best to deliver the best possible frights.  Voodoo Priestess gives a noteworthy performance as did "flesh wall" detainee, bed-bouncy lunatics, amputee, incubator nurse, and the bloody surgeon performing the spine extraction. Cafeteria workers utilized the best dialogue.  Unique creatures (vulture, opossum, actortronic crocodile and python, etc.) are appreciated, as are special effects like the use of sparks, smoke emanating from within the crematorium, the aforementioned falling rain within the swamp, etc.  Density of mechanical "monsters" is likewise recognized and respected.

Carnage is bigger and better than ever at their new location, which still has plenty of room for expansion.  Pay them a visit and enjoy one of the most realistic haunted attractions the season has to offer!
