RECAP:  Blood stained footprints lead up a flight of stairs and into the first of three floors of terror that comprise The Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse.  A devilish grave digger walks the grounds of an eerie cemetery, slamming his shovel to the ground while intimidatingly announcing, “We’d love to have you stay with us!” and “I’ve got the perfect spot picked out just for you!”  High-tailing it to safety through a green, laser-lit quagmire rouses the ire of a previously unseen swamp monster before divergence through a casket-lined corridor discovers the remains of a coffin bound, bloody-mouthed vampire that’s been staked through her heart!

Other scenes include Art Therapy, which features black-lit paintings; laboratory 51, where alien corpses are autopsied, syringes glow in the dark, firecrackers go off, lights flicker, and sparks fly from caged specimens!  Strange writings are found on all walls that guide progression down a spooky hallway giving rise to well-hidden monsters springing into action from dark crevasses providing excellent jump scares as the route approaches another blood-stained staircase that escorts the adventure down to the main floor of the attraction.

Slamming a large piece of pipe onto the ground, an irate creature goes on the attack, giving pursuit into a walkway highlighted by florescent paintings and more sparkling laser projections. Loud moans and groans beckon the way into a science room that incites a monster to pop out from behind the professor’s desk, and a decapitated head is all that remains of the “Teacher’s Pet!”  Passing through an unsanitary restroom disturbs someone trapped in a locked, smelly stall crying out for someone to open the door!  Spiderweb-covered passageways lead to a confrontation with a laughing, horn-honking clown who’s full of shenanigans in advance of entrance into what looks to be an abandoned “Bed & Breakfast” resort that finds rotten food decaying on a dining room table, a crimson-stained bathtub, a nursery of bloody dolls, a kitchen scattered with dismembered body parts and severed heads, and even an alligator forging its way up through an unflushed toilet!

A tag-team of ghouls serve as obstacles of continuance, threatening passersby with pipe wrenches, and hammers, then a disgruntled janitor announces that someone has “pooped” in the next room and he isn’t cleaning it up!  Slide-down panels come crashing down upon entering a Fun House that’s home to a jack-in-the-box surprise, and a lightless encounter with an undetected clown, who magically appears out of nowhere when her face suddenly illuminates right before your very eyes!

Insect infestations witness gigantic spiders emerging from crates, scurrying up walls, and encasing what’s left of half-eaten cadavers in cobweb cocoons!  More dreadful moaning accompanies descent into the cellar of the once thriving school as lamenting fades to warning signs mandating Level-5 security clearance in order to proceed.  Deterrents such as, “No way out!” and “Too Late!” adorn basement walls of the restricted area, soon to be identified as belonging to Contagion Industries, where a convulsing soul instigates an unwanted uprising as sirens blast loudly, mutations scamper and crawl across floors, and other experimentations claw out from the bars of their imprisoning jail cells!  Barrels of radioactive waste comprise décor and toxic contaminants fill the air en route to the Artificial Wound Project that hides body bags, an incubator of mutant, disfigured, sharp-toothed infants, and a deplorable nurse cradling one of the newborns in her arms, and extending invitations to, “Feed my Baby!” and cautioning, “I promise she’ll only eat 2 or 3 fingers!”

Gas masked adversaries aggressively encourage exit into an outdoor wooden maze inhabited by a murderous brute dicing a human body in two with a mega-sized chainsaw, then revving it up for an apparent chainsaw chase-out that turns out to be a false finish when just as you think it’s over, you come face to face with a pig-faced fiend armed with a shovel, and anxious to put you 6 feet under!  Fleeing through an abandoned cornfield enlists an encore chainsaw assault, and eventual escape from The Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse!

ANALYSIS:  This lengthy attraction is jam-packed with an abundance of static props, and features a variety of scares throughout its 3-floor exploration!  Bloody footprints escort the path on several occasions, especially on the staircases.  Spider room is memorable, as is Fun House’s light-flickering surprise!  Nurse cradling a newborn baby did a great job too.  Likewise for the hidden jump-scare character towards the end of first floor, as he wasn’t visible prior to his ambush!  Other noteworthy performers include grave digger, swamp monster, pipe wrench and hammer duo, gas-masked villains, pig-faced oinker, and both chainsaw assailants.  False finish is well planned and builds an initial sense of security, thus setting the stage for Pig-face, and the subsequent chainsaw finale.

Due to its sizable duration, additional actors would serve to boost the fright factor.  The haunt would also benefit from a few mechanical scares to better the overall experience, and a monster actor-tronic or 2 would perfectly compliment the Contagion Industries sector.  Misdirection that was so appreciated a season ago isn't utilized this year, and claustrophobic air bags and other path invading obstacles have been removed in order to be more coronavirus compliant.

All-in-all, it’s a very good effort from a somewhat old-school style attraction that’s fit for all ages, and you sure get your money’s worth!  OVH very much enjoyed The Mohican Haunted Schoolhouse!  Pay them a visit!
