RECAP: The famous "Nightmare on Valley Street" trail comprises the first leg of the 3 haunted attractions at Dayton Scream Park. The other two remaining haunts, Rat Trap and Hollywood are annexed onto the end. Early on, the isolated woods are inhabited by redneck hillbillies, one of which totes a shotgun, and serves up an immediate path-blocking confrontation! Their scene is entered as the course meanders beneath a rusting pick-up truck they've put up on blocks in an old junkyard-like setting, and concludes with a deadly gunshot! Fleeing into the dimly-lit forest delivers a surprising, overhead, flying chainsaw assault, and a pair of motorized chases featuring a bright-light quad, and a car that comes crashing off State Route 4! Encounters with pitchfork carrying villains give way to wickedly laughing clowns that separate groups creating a sense of panic! Various structures, and scenes are visited along the winding route before entering the seemingly endless confines of The Rat Trap that at times boggles the mind! Numerous monsters pop forth throughout the entanglement further compromising progression. Highlights include the illumination of an old carriage revealing several, previously unseen, imprisoned children screaming loudly seeking escape from their captivity (good use of kiddy actors), and "Clown Town," a densely populated area occupied by some of the most violent jesters the attraction has to offer. Pennywise, Jingles and their gang of pranksters terrorize and torment passersby, pinning "touch pass" guests up against walls, forcing them into jail cells, and even picking them up and putting them on tables for even more shenanigans, including one diabolical clown in particular, armed with an oversized crescent wrench threatening to rip off certain vital body parts, while a female clown smashes a hammer down inches from your head! Elusion doesn't mean you're done with the clowns, as Dopey waits in the wings, playing tricks and funny gags on those waiting to set foot into Hollywood, where many infamous theatrical monsters from big screen horror movies have taken up residence. Showdowns with Michael Myers, Pinhead, Freddy Krueger, and others set the stage for the OVH Award Winning, Texas Chainsaw Massacre finale, that witnesses Leatherface and his murderous chainsaw's blood-splattering climax!
VIP guests are treated to a 4th Bonus Attraction, details of which are not being disclosed!
ANALYSIS: Dayton Scream Park annually features more actors than just about any other attraction in the business, and this year's experience is no exception. In addition, more characters are now sporting makeup instead of just relying totally on a variety of masks. Dialogue is a bit undeveloped in the early stages of the adventure, but picks up in Clown Town, where the psycho jesters were at their best! An enhanced soundtrack is on tap for 2019, which compliments the journey. Continued development in this department would prove beneficial. Props are somewhat basic except for 5 of the mechanical/animatronic variety present in the opening stages of the trail and the finishing scene. Supplemental, higher-tech additions would be nice to see scattered throughout remaining areas. Admission to all three attractions is $20. A new TOUCH PASS ticket option is available this year costing only $5 more, and results in gentle touching along the trail and in Hollywood, but all bets are off in the Clown Town segment of Rat Trap, where you might get physically assaulted, shoved into walls, picked up, thrown on tables, locked in cages, etc. VIP admission grants front of the line entrance, and access to a 4th bonus attraction for additional scares not available to those opting for general admission, but is a necessity if you're wanting to experience everything Dayton Scream Park has to offer.
