RECAP:  Greater Cincinnati’s most iconic Halloween haunt is back with even more terrifying frights for 2025! The night begins at the Fall Festival, a carnival-style midway filled with seasonal booths and games: Dracula’s Revenge, Witches’ Brew, Bone Throw, Dead Head Shot, Bobbing for Apples, Boo Blasters, Costume Contest, and many more. A massive, Kürbis-headed monster towers over the pumpkin patch while glowing jack-o’-lanterns light the winding queue line, leading eager guests closer to the notorious 1894 Dent Schoolhouse.

Inside, spooky music echoes through the halls as the upstairs unfolds into a relentless assault of scares: statues suddenly spring to life, winged ghouls shriek overhead, and a paranormal desk maze disorients the crowd. Guests encounter CGI illusions, air blasts, living dolls, and a classroom scene where discipline becomes punishing at the hands of an animated paddling. The library itself twists reality with multiple tilting bookcases that close in on all sides nearly tumbling their way directly into the path!

A rickety staircase leads downward to lingering casualties of Charlie, the Janitor. His workshop is plastered with posters of missing children, setting a chilling tone, while the rest of the basement features hanged student corpses; live victims struggling from within bricked-up walls; a corridor of upright mattresses concealing half-torsos clinging to life; and a hallway where severed heads dangle from above. Oversized insects skitter overhead, devouring prey, while a candlelit catacomb filled with skulls hides a lunging creature. The route continues through sewer tunnels with rushing water and hidden terrors lurking in the cistern.

The haunt expands into cinematic set pieces: a bloodthirsty vampiress attack from an elevated ledge, a vast coffin chamber, and a haunting church complete with eerie stained glass, ghostly congregants, and a Fallen Angel that descends from the altar itself.

From there, guests stumble into a twisted circus, navigating a curtain maze, static clowns, a cotton candy room, and relentless “Jester” attacks. The madness continues through corridors of thrashing body bags, a freezer scene with a screaming captive suspended in a cage, and a grisly claustrophobic garbage dump of severed limbs and a desperate victim clinging to life while a nearby detainee is carved apart by a murderous, spinning saw.

The horror escalates with a gore-soaked food preparing area that’s littered with naked corpses, some spewing blood from their mouths; a laboratory lined with jars of body parts; and an asylum inhabited by lunatics, one of which literally climbs the padded walls! Encounters with Dr. Dent himself showcase a monstrous, Frankenstein-like creation being restored to life, capped by the electrocution of one of his most unfortunate “patients.”

The final relentless gauntlet consists of a smoky boiler room; an enormous python slithering from the shadows; spider-filled corridors; more hanged bodies; a roaring, chainsaw-wielding maniac; and finally a surreal bubble bath maze. The terror concludes with a vicious guard dog attack, signaling the end of another unforgettable year at The Dent Schoolhouse.

ANALYSIS:  If someone was given the assignment of conjuring up the perfect haunted house, THIS just might be it!  The Dent Schoolhouse 2025 raises the bar once again with their patented theatrical set design, nonstop scares, and a narrative that blends history, horror, and spectacle. From its festival-style entryway to its unique, seldom seen finale, it remains one of the nation’s premier haunted attractions—utterly relentless, deeply atmospheric, and guaranteed to leave guests screaming all the way back to the parking lot!

The Schoolhouse is a masterpiece in more ways than one! Detailing and design are the best you'll see! Sounds and lighting are equally as good and and combine to create a textbook haunted house atmosphere! The attraction sports so many outstanding props they’re too numerous to list. Favorites include: haunted bookcases, water draining pipes, stained glass windows, one-of-a-kind claustrophobia passage, yellow-eyed snake, table saw, and mechanical paddling of unruly student! Downstairs course has been altered. Dialogue was a bit weak, but jump scares were plentiful and well-hidden actors were all trying their best to give the best performances possible.

Notable preformances are given by girl on overhead zipline, asylum wall climber, insect victims, and Dr. Dent.  Primary villain Charlie the Janitor was conspicuous by his absence from the basement on the night of our visit.

Cost of admission begins at $19.99 if purchased online for selected dates! Please verify amount on the Dent Website Ticket page! General admission tickets purchased on site are $5 more.  Fast passes run an extra $20, and it’s a $40 upcharge this year to get you to the front of the line.  (Prices are subject to applicable fees).

A special, non-scary Lights On event with Trick-or-Treat candy and prize stations located throughout the schoolhouse takes place on Sunday, October 19th from 4 – 6 PM costing $9.99 for children and $14.99 for adults.  “Lights Out” nights are Nov. 7th & 8th.  Ghost Tours (complete darkness/no actors) and Behind-the-Scenes tours are also offered as additional experiences along with their Christmas Nightmare haunted winter wonderland holiday event.
