RECAP: Groups are initially greeted by a butler-like character that permits entrance into a brief encounter with Winfrey the Witch, where a previously hidden child suddenly breaks free from her confinement and quickly scampers off leaving an open door behind that leads us into the darkness of the haunted Manor! A chained monster lunges forward as the excursion gets underway and continues amid spooky whispers through a dim corridor filled with spider webs that connects to an Annabelle/Raggedy Ann doll room, where visitors must drop to their knees and crawl their way out! A bloody kitchen adorned with suspended body parts conceals a face-to-face conflict with a Leatherface-like chainsaw lunatic! Fleeing for safety through a back door delivers the course into an apocalyptic, wooded area that’s stalked by undead zombies as well as a 12’ tall Slenderman! Boarding a dilapidated school bus soon exits into a clown surprise; a rubber room; a sandy trek through a cave; a pirate guarding his treasure; a green, laser-lit swamp; and a frightening cemetery that witnesses attacks by a mummy-like creature joining forces with Agatha!
Additional scares come from a falling, spiked ceiling that unexpectedly comes crashing down from above, and some easily recognizable horror movie recreations including, “Nightmare on Elm Street” starring Freddy Krueger; an aerial assault from Jeepers Creepers; Samara reenacting her iconic TV escape from “The Ring;” a deadly “Halloween” confrontation with Michael Myers and his murderous knife; being forced inside a “Wrong Turn” refrigerator and rocked from side-to-side by a pair of bat slamming, backwoods cannibals; and an elaborate Camp Crystal Lake run-in with the notorious, machete carrying “Friday the 13” slasher Jason Voorhees that’s followed by a revisit from Bogeyman Myers chasing us out of Nightmare Manor!
ANALYSIS: Horror film recreations are well done at The Manor and are the strong point of their scares. Quite a few characters populate the attraction further strengthening the performance. Stilted Slenderman is unforgettable! Ring girl, zombies, Jeepers Creepers, Michael Myers, and “Wrong Turn” Cannibals stand out, with Jeepers Creepers’ barn hayloft jump being most impressive! Myers pursuing customers to the parking lot and in some cases back to their cars is fantastic! Crawl space is cleverly incorporated into the course, and they also make good use of their outdoor area. Swamp and falling ceiling are among the more memorable, visually impressive sights. Soundtrack could be improved upon as some scenes are a bit too quiet.
The haunt stays open until 1 AM for your convenience. Be sure to take advantage of their canned good discount, which saves $2 off the price of admission. Parking fee is $2. This was OVH’s first time visiting Nightmare Manor and it won’t be our last!
